Farther ou Further?

Farther e further são usados para indicar distância, mas com algumas diferenças sutis:

• Farther é mais usado para distâncias físicas.
  Ex: We need to walk farther.
• Further aparece com mais frequência em distâncias figurativas ou no sentido de “mais”, “adicional” ou “além”.
  Ex: We need to go further with this idea.

Além disso, further pode ser usado como verbo, significando avançar ou desenvolver:
She wants to further her career.

E também como advérbio equivalente a furthermore:
And further, we need to think about costs.

Apesar dessas distinções, no uso cotidiano, farther e further costumam ser usados de forma intercambiável quando se fala de distância física. Ex:
How much farther/further is the store?
