E usamos do jeito errado.
Hello, dear students! Today we made a list of words that we import from English and use in the wrong way.
Olá, queridos alunos! Hoje fizemos uma lista de palavras que importamos do inglês e usamos de forma errada.
Chip em vez de SIM card:
- Uso incorreto: “Inseri o chip no meu telefone para ativá-lo.”
- Correct usage: “I inserted the SIM card into my phone to activate it.”
Cheap Hotel em vez de Motel: (No Brasil a palavra motel é utilizada para outro tipo de estabelecimento).
- Uso incorreto: “Ficamos em um hotel barato durante nossa viagem de carro.”
- Correct usage: “We stayed at a motel during our road trip.”
Data Show em vez de Projector:
- Uso incorreto: “A apresentação será exibida usando um data show.”
- Correct usage: “The presentation will be displayed using a projector.”
Home Office em vez de Work from Home: Em inglês a expressão home office é usada para falar sobre o local, não sobre a ação de trabalhar de casa em si.
- Uso incorreto: “Prefiro trabalhar em um home office em vez de ir para o escritório.”
- Correct usage: “I prefer to work from home rather than going to the office.”
Notebook em vez de Laptop: Notebook em inglês significa caderno.
- Uso incorreto: “Eu levo meu notebook para fazer anotações durante as reuniões.”
- Correct usage: “I bring my laptop to take notes during meetings.”
Outdoor em vez de Billboard: Em inglês a palavra outdoor significa, exterior, ao ar livre.
- Uso incorreto: “O anúncio foi exibido em um outdoor gigante.”
- Correct usage: “The advertisement was displayed on a huge billboard.”
Pen drive em vez de USB Drive/Flash drive:
- Uso incorreto: “Salve os arquivos no pen drive para facilitar a transferência.”
- Correct usage: “Save the files on the USB drive/flash drive/memory key for easy transfer.”
Print screen em vez de Screenshot: Quem nunca enviou um “print” p alguém?
- Uso incorreto: “Pressione o botão Print Screen para capturar a tela.”
- Correct usage: “Press the screenshot button to capture the screen.”
Show em vez de Concert:
- Uso incorreto: “Estou animado para assistir a um show da minha banda favorita.”
- Correct usage: “I’m excited to attend a concert by my favorite band.”
Smoking em vez de Tuxedo:
- Uso incorreto: “Ele usou um smoking para o evento formal.”
- Correct usage: “He wore a tuxedo to the formal event.”
Step em vez de Spare tire:
- Uso incorreto: “Certifique-se de ter um step no porta-malas.”
- Correct usage: “Make sure you have a spare tire in your trunk.”
Underscore X Underline:
Underscore:
- English: “In programming, we often use underscores to separate words in variable names, like ‘first_name’ or ‘total_sales’.”
- Portuguese: “Na programação, frequentemente usamos underscores para separar palavras em nomes de variáveis, como ‘primeiro_nome’ ou ‘vendas_totais’.”
Underline:
- English: “Please underline the title of the book in your essay.”
- Portuguese: “Por favor, sublinhe o título do livro em seu ensaio
